I've always been inspired by Van Gogh's iris paintings, there's something about the way he captured their ruffled, dramatic petals that feels impossible to look away from. So when I spotted this beauty on a neighborhood walk, caught under the harsh high noon sun, I didn't hesitate.
The deep violet petals with their golden beard stopped me completely. I stood there longer than I should have, phone out, taking reference photos from every angle.
