Spring is one of my favorite times of year, the new buds whispering hello, eager to greet the sun, fill me with hope. I'm especially a sucker for flowering trees: apple blossoms, cherry blossoms, you name it. There's something about those delicate little flowers that just gets me every time.
Escaping Apple Blossom is one of my only paintings with a background, and it was a joy to paint. Two fully open blooms take center stage, their soft blush-white petals opening around warm golden stamens, while a cluster of deep pink buds surrounds them, still gathered tight, just on the edge of opening. The loose, impressionistic background of greens and pinks gives the whole piece a sense of movement and light, like a warm breeze is moving through the branches.
