Colorado Columbine
Art by Emma Lian Print
The Colorado columbine (Aquilegia coerulea) is our state flower, and I’ll admit I walked past it on hikes for years without giving it a second thought. Then I moved to Australia, got homesick, and suddenly all I wanted was a little blue-and-white flower on a mountain trail.
This watercolor is part of my Colorado wildflowers series, inspired by vintage botanical posters. It’s a one flower close-up, so you get all the petals, spurs, and details that I never appreciated until I tried to paint them.
Perfect for Colorado natives, transplants, homesick people everywhere, and anyone who likes botanical art.
